When do teeth come in?

Tooth Eruption During Childhood

The first teeth appear when the baby is four weeks old. First come the central incisors, followed by the lateral incisors, molars, canines, and finally, the last molars. Under normal conditions, all teeth should have erupted by 24 months, but they may continue to grow until age 3. During this first phase, a baby will have a maximum of 20 teeth under normal conditions.

This set of teeth is temporary, and the teeth will fall out gradually starting around ages 6–7. The growth and development of children’s jaws contribute to this process.

Tooth Growth During Adolescence

When baby teeth begin to fall out, the incisors and some molars regenerate gradually. In a second phase, starting around ages 10–12, the canines will erupt. The wisdom teeth, which develop later, deserve special mention. Barring health issues, this set of teeth is the permanent one. It is common for the entire process of tooth replacement to be complete by approximately age 13.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that growth is not uniform. Depending on the child, it may take more or less time for the teeth to develop. For this reason, it’s important to monitor their growth starting at age 4.
